Page Background 36 AteToday? Thank a Farmer. Better Farming December 2016 UP CLOSE What’s your most important goal? STEVE: To enjoy what you’re doing. It makes everything so much easier. The long hours and everything else. ANITA: I was going to say something very similar. How do you define success? ANITA: To look back and say, that was an awesome life. And you know, that Steve and I have been able to do that together. To look back and go, wow, wasn’t that a ride the two of us have been on? STEVE: Absolutely. And a lot of good people we’ve been around, that’s for sure. Is your farm vehicle messy or neat? ANITA: I would say it’s dirty. STEVE: It does get cleaned out at the end of the season though. ANITA: But you know, that’s once a year. Is it neat? Yes. Things need to be in their place, and Steve and I are both like that. What are three items in your farm vehicle? ANITA/STEVE: GPS, first aid kit, and Sudoku puzzle book. What was the last piece of equipment you bought for your farm? STEVE/ANITA: Our lavender harvester. STEVE: Originally from New Zealand. What’s the best time of day? STEVE: About 10 p.m. ANITA: So your best time of day is that late? STEVE: Yeah, 9 or 10 p.m. It’s quiet. You’re normally sitting beside me. ANITA: I was going to say 9, 10 p.m. I’m chilling as well. STEVE: Sleeping beside me. What was your most memorable crop/production year? ANITA: 2010. STEVE: That’s what I was just thinking. ANITA: It was the year we planted the vineyard, we planted the lavender. BF Anita Buehner
