Page Background PROMOTIONAL SUPPLEMENT 35 Minto ON, September 20-24, 2016 A Fresh Taste of Farming Approximately 325 poles, 19 kilometres of wire and enough power to supply a small town: that’s what it takes to electrify the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo each year. As thousands of guests eagerly wait to attend one of North America’s largest agricultural events, Hydro One’s apprentices have no easy task in building the electricity system from the ground up. Proudly serving the majority of farm and rural customers throughout Ontario, Hydro One is a proud partner of the IPM and looks forward to electrifying an important historic tradition in the agricultural community. Each year, the IPM provides Hydro One with an opportunity to showcase the skills of Powerline Technician apprentice crews as well as offering an invaluable training experience for them. Alongside a dedicated team of mentors and seasoned crews, apprentices gain on the job training as they design and construct the temporary electrical grid in a safe and controlled environment. Individuals must complete a four-year apprenticeship of 8,000 hours combining both class room learning and hands on training, in order to become a certified Powerline Technician. Their involvement in the IPM offers approximately 10 days’ worth of experience. Hydro One’s participation also allows the Company to connect with customers from every corner of the province. The event serves as an excellent opportunity to educate customers about a variety of programs such as outage notification tools, electrical safety and forestry programs. In addition, each year, attendees are given the opportunity to view equipment essential to constructing the IPM grid and keeping the lights on across the province on a daily basis. Marking its fourth annual trip to the IPM, Hydro One’s Electricity Discovery Centre (EDC) provides another exciting opportunity for attendees to interact with Hydro One. The EDC features a number of interactive exhibits and educates customers about the role Hydro One plays in the province, how to manage electricity costs and how our infrastructure works to power homes and businesses across Ontario. Hydro One has been a proud supporter of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo for more than a decade and is excited to support the 2016 event in the Town of Minto. Powerful Partnerships Partners in Powerful Communities Alongside a dedicated team of mentors, Hydro One apprentices look forward to the opportunity to support the International Plowing Match & Rural Expo each year by building the electricity system from the ground up.
