McGuinty loves pork Sunday, April 1, 2012 Nobody can say that Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is afraid to serve up pork.Pork producers will remember that in the midst of the H1N1 crisis in May 2009, McGuinty, Minister of Agriculture Leona Dombrowsky and Ontario pork chair Wilma Jeffray served up pulled pork sandwiches for folks at Queen's Park.Now, according to the Jan. 30 issue of Maclean's magazine, bacon, added to macaroni and cheese, was a key part of a "feast" that he sponsored at the national Liberal convention in Ottawa. "The buzz about Premier McGuinty going for the (leadership) job increased dramatically after people checked out the party he had . . . at Daly's in the Westin Hotel." Maclean's goes on to describe that "the feast included a huge leg of meat, poutine, as well as mac and cheese with bacon."McGuinty may be too busy fighting to keep his slim majority in Ontario to take a shot at that federal job in 2013. Pork is a key fuel for politicians, but so is wind – and pushing wind power in Ontario has gotten the premier nowhere fast.
