Henry Denotter, 2013 president of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA), says he will be looking to soil and crop locals for innovative ideas during his tenure as president.
“I want to hear the from the locals,” Denotter says. “I don’t want everything to come from the top. I’d like to know what’s going on (at the local level). “
Although Denotter Farms supports many conservation projects including rock chutes, grassed waterways, shelter belts and no-till farming methods as well as conducting annual corn and soybean trials, Denotter believes there are more innovative ideas out there that farmers could bring to OSCIA’s attention.
“There’s lots of innovation out there,” he says. ”We’re only just touching on it.”
Denotter, a Kingsville-area grain and oilseed producer, has been working with OSCIA since 1995 when he joined the local executive. In 2006, he became an Ontario director and began working his way up to the top job. BF
