New court date set for Pigeon King

Thursday, October 27, 2011

by BETTER FARMING STAFF

Arlan Galbraith’s lawyer, Paul Williams, appeared before Justice of the Peace Zeljana Radulovic in the Provincial Court of Justice in Kitchener Wednesday and asked that the case be remanded. Galbraith, the owner of now defunct Pigeon King International, faces one charge of fraud over $5,000 and four counts under the Bankruptcy Act.

Radulovic set the next court appearance for Nov. 23. Williams told the court he needed more time to go through the voluminous documents associated with the case.

Assistant Crown Attorney Lynn Robinson said the Ontario attorney general’s office committed six months of her work time in 2010 to reading nearly 600,000 pages of documents relating to the case.

Charges were brought against Galbraith last December following a two year investigation by RCMP and Waterloo Region police. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Based in Waterloo, Galbraith and PKI sold breeding pairs of pigeons for high prices and bought back their offspring. He handed his business to a bankruptcy trustee in June, 2008, and creditors forced him into personal bankruptcy in 2009. BF
