How to optimize your solar yield

Thursday, June 16, 2011

by SUSAN MANN

The University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus is hosting four solar energy information workshops next month across Ontario.

Sue McLarty, Ridgetown Campus project coordinator, says this year’s workshops are a continuation of ones held last year.  “Now that it’s been going up almost a year we have some data on the yields and how they’re working and some more information on the grid hook up with Hydro and stuff.”

Topics to be covered include optimizing your yield, maintenance tips, leasing and contracts and connecting to the grid.  There will be information for people considering a solar installation and for those who are already doing solar electricity generation.

Each session is $35 for those who preregister and $45 per session at the door.

The sessions are: July 5 at the Pioneer Lecture Hall, Ruby Brown Centre, Ridgetown Campus of the University of Guelph; July 6 in Woodstock at the CAW Hall at 126 Beale Street; July 7 in Guelph at the Holiday Inn at Scottsdale and Stone roads; and July 11 in Kingston at the Royal Canadian Legion at 734 Montreal Street.

All workshops start at 7 p.m. and they’ll be completed by 10 p.m. McLarty the speakers will finish by about 9:30 p.m. and the last 30 minutes will be set aside for questions from the audience members.

Last year’s session were well attended, she says, noting they’re hoping there will be a lot of interest this year too. BF
