Grape growers get $12 million Monday, June 27, 2011 by BETTER FARMING STAFFOntario grape growers are getting $12 million through the Ontario Vineyard Improvement Program. The money will provide four years of funding for vine removal, vineyard preparation, vine trellis systems, bird netting, frost prevention, improved irrigation and other viticulture improvements. The Grape Growers of Ontario represents more than 500 active growers in Ontario with 15,000 acres of grapes, principally in Niagara, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County. Bill George, chair of the Grape Growers of Ontario, said the government funding makes good business sense.
