CFIA announces new food safety enforcement measures Monday, November 25, 2013 by SUSAN MANN Meat processors that fail to respect Canadian meat safety requirements will be facing new penalties, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says. The new fines are called administrative monetary penalties and they can be applied if, for example, a company withholds information or records needed for a food safety investigation, CFIA says in a Nov. 21 announcement posted on its website. The fines can range from $1,300 to $10,000, CFIA spokesperson Elena Koutsavakis says by email. CFIA will introduce the penalties for meat-related violations after it holds industry-wide consultations, amends regulations and properly trains inspectors “to insure that these new measures are applied consistently across the country.” BF What to do with pigeons no one wanted New York equity firm acquires Ontario farm implement manufacturer
