Cargill moves Strathroy operations Thursday, June 16, 2011 by SUSAN MANNCargill is discontinuing operations at its Strathroy crop input and grain elevator facility but farmer customers in the area will continue to get service, says a company spokesman. The closure is effective July 1 and the four full time employees at the Strathroy facility are being provided with equal opportunities to work in Melbourne.Andrei Grigore, Cargill farm service group manager, says farmers who deliver grain by truck to Strathroy will now just drive to the Cargill facility in Melbourne instead. For farmers who can’t truck their grain to Melbourne, Cargill can pick it up from their farm. As for crop inputs, the company can deliver that to the farm.In a press release, it says the reason Cargill is moving its Strathroy business to the nearby existing location at Melbourne is to provide customers with better support and more personalized business solutions. In addition, the Melbourne facility is newer and better equipped to handle a greater storage capacity.A third reason for the move is Strathroy is expanding and there are now houses around Cargill’s facility, Grigore explains.
