I like to ride my bike and motorcycle and do a lot of outdoor stuff. I also like to travel. I play hockey too. Curtis: I do a lot with my kids, and I like going places with them in the summer. In the winter, hockey is big. In the summer, me and my friends also do motocross every Sunday. I do that with my kids too. We have a good set of friends and neighbours here. What does sustainability look like on your farm? Joe: I typically think of business sustainability, but we also try to do sustainable tillage and fertilizer practices. With cropping, there are different ways to do things and we constantly tweak it. You always want to be respectful and grow the crop nicely for those around you, but at the end of the day those practices also have to make sense. Business sustainability comes down to: How much do you pay yourself? Do you have enough people? Do you hire more? Do you buy a new farm? Those are the big questions. You need to be figuring out the money situation and whether you can keep the farm and pass it on. Curtis: For me, it’s if we can pass it all on to our kids. Will another generation be able to do it? Can we keep the operation at this size or bigger, and keep it in the family? BF CABEF is a registered charity (#828593731RR0001).
