35 Better Farming | September 2024 Follow us on @BetterFarmingON because I don’t see the payback. Curtis: You don’t always think about how much autosteer has done, but you see a lot of payback. It increases efficiency and operators are paying more attention to planting depth and are able to monitor more of what’s going on with the implement. We’ll be testing out autonomous technology and trying to figure out where that gain might be. What keeps you up at night? Joe: It depends on the time of year. I’m pretty good at trying to keep the farm and home separate. Usually, springtime can be more stressful. Whatever I can control I stress about. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and need to get a lot done. It’s the timing of everything in the spring that gets me a bit. Curtis: Corn drying keeps you up and worrying about grain conditioning, but I’m getting better at it. It doesn’t worry me near as much anymore – with experience comes more confidence. It’s definitely stressful in high VOM years or when the grain is wet and you’re putting it in bins and shipping it. That’s the most stressful time for me. Joe does a very good job, and I don’t have to worry about anything he does. We have our specialties and that works well. Sometimes we question each other but it’s never adversarial and is always constructive.
