Better Farming Ontario | February 2024

TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION 61 Technology & Innovation February 2022 Promotional Supplement researched BMP of planting and growing corn and soybean crops. The idea was to develop a cropping program that addresses all negative cropping concerns, and to reduce the inputs, but still grow the same volume/ tonnage of crop as in past years. “Broadcasting fertilizer is an unacceptable cropping practice.” It has promoted the nutrient loss problem, related to our environment. We believe that we can “GROW MORE WITH LESS”. Fertile Stripping Technology, the latest BMP, addresses all of the political and environmental and cropping reproduction concerns and requests, being forced upon the farming crop reproduction industry. GPS ONTARIO has top knowledge in Fertile Stripping Technology and has researched the Fertile Stripping cropping theory, and has produced some remarkable results. Being the contracted crop provider for the SMART FARM project at the Woodroffe Ag Research Centre in Ottawa, ON, for the past 2 years we have analyzed many Fertile Stripping programs that do not give the same results that our program gets. We understand and can explain why. Other fertile stripping systems don’t work as well as the farmer was expecting, and what the differences are. It is very easy to apply 30% plus less fertilizer with a fertile stripping system. If done correctly, you will grow the same farm average, and in most cases more. The program allows us to work the strip and apply the require fertilizer in the first pass, and 24 to 48 hours later plant the crop in the second pass. That is two passes for a growing crop, not six. This reduces the tractor time and the fuel burnt. This reduces Contaminants from burnt fuel carbons in the air. It reduces the hours of a driver in the tractor seat. You are driving over unworked firm soil which reduces additional compaction from both passes. Fertile Stripping reduces the amount of fertilizer being applied by using the DAWN Plurbus strip till units. We get a 6” x 5” trench that has fertilizer blended through the whole trench this allows the fertilizer to be in full contact with the soil. When the granular of fertilizer breaks down, the soil absorbs the fertilizer, and we get no fertilizer bleaching, no hot zones and we reduce or eliminate fertilizer components run off. Looking at this Fertile Stripping program mathematically, we are over feeding the Fertile Stripping zone by 100+ %. This is a promoter of double cob population. We are seeing all cobs of corn 18 kernels round and 40+ Kernels long. We are also seeing many plants with 2 full and a 3rd smaller but with kernels to combine. That’s what we call “Growing More with Less”. This is very possible, and we are meeting the Canadian guidelines. This is all achievable without reducing your net income. We just have to rethink how to use and apply our fertilizer as it relates to a fertility cropping program. For more information contact GPS ONTARIO Morley Wallace.
