DON’T lose or destroy old maps of earlier drainage systems. DON’T spread manure on tiled fields when the soil is dry and soil cracks are deep. DON’T apply pesticides, chemical fertilizer, or other chemicals when they can be washed into tile drain water or the ground water. DON’T spread liquid manure when the soil surface is too wet and manure runs into ditches. DON’T spread liquid manure on frozen surface, close to ditches or tile inlets nor on top of snow. DON’T plant crops too close to the edge of ditches, leave an adequate buffer strip. DON’T work soil when it is so wet wheels leave tracks and soil compaction.
