Better Farming Prairie | July August 2024

Langham, Sask. | July 16-18, 2024 Very soon, Prairie producers and others in the ag industry will gather at Ag in Motion, the largest outdoor farm expo in Western Canada. So it’s a good time to sharpen up our farm-show skills to ensure we make the most of our time at the event. There are hundreds of exhibitors coming to Ag in Motion this year, spread out on 100 acres, and you’ll want to see many of them. Know where to go Ag in Motion happens near Langham, Sask., which is 15 minutes northwest of Saskatoon on Hwy. 16. Discovery Farm Langham is the home of Ag in Motion. It’s a 610-acre property, and the event showcases technology and hosts its live demonstrations on 100 acres of Discovery Farm Langham. Get an early start The show runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, so you might want to find overnight accommodation to make the morning drive easier. For help finding a hotel, you might want to check out Discover Saskatoon at TourismSaskatoon.com. You should find something to suit your budget and personal preferences there. Dress the part You will likely be walking for hours, so comfortable shoes are a good idea. Pockets are useful. Hats (and sunscreen) will protect you from the elements. And maybe throw a raincoat into the backpack – just so you’ll be ready for everything. Stay connected To stay up-to-date with the latest news, exhibitor announcements, and special event details, follow Ag in Motion on social media, plus sign up online for their newsletter and download the event app at aginmotion.ca. And here’s an Insider Tip from us: Consider using your mobile to take photos of all the printed promotional literature you see at the event – to review later, and even forward to family and friends. Yes, that cell phone is a power tool at a big farm show. You can also take shots of equipment, crops, and even name tags of salespeople you might want to reconnect with when you’re back at the farm. Take breaks A successful day at the farm show is more marathon than sprint. So pace yourself by taking rest breaks. Finding a quiet spot to rest, relax and refocus for a few minutes can be a winning move. Have a drink of your favourite beverage. And ideally, plan your meal breaks when concession lineups are shortest (easier said than done). Enjoy yourself – it’s worth It! Yes, you’re likely at the show to do business. But have yourself a great time while you’re there. Whether you have a long drive to get to the event, or you do a lot of walking at the show, or even encounter some summer showers, visiting Ag in Motion should be an experience that makes it all worth It.
