The student-run event, now in its second year, featured a trade show, farm tours, and presentations from students and researchers, all focused on agriculture technology. Molly Sayers, project lead for Farm 4.0 at Lakeland College, tells Better Farming that planning the show is a part of an innovation and leadership in agriculture class. “It was neat learning about more aspects of project management. There were 30 of us working together. We were given one semester, and we had three months to put everything together. It was a short time, but it was doable,” Molly explains. “We had two staff advisors who helped with finance, and other behind-the-scenes things like budgeting. They were our go-to. We also worked with the Lakeland College marketing team, and they gave us lots of input with regards to planning and marketing. But in the end, it’s the bachelor of ag tech students who reach out to people and make it happen.” Equipment and technology companies were on-site at the trade show, talking with the 400 visitors and displaying their products and services. The exhibitors represented a variety of different commodity and livestock types: There were precision mapping companies, data management services, dairy robotics, and LAKELAND COLLEGE’S STUDENT-RUN AG TECH EVENT GROWS IN ITS SECOND YEAR.
