According to the public records, Ontario Pork Marketing Division is owed, $1,032,210 and OP Producers are owed $31,094.

Would not a lot of those hogs have been "direct contract hogs" so the big amount of money would be owed too producers directly rather than OP marketing division. Can't help but think we the producers are the losers from Carol Mitchell's decision too abolish single desk selling and Ontario Pork deciding too close or sell all marketing yards and allow direct contracting with packers with out any third party oversight . Maybe would not have prevented the Quality Meats issues but they would have had a better handle on it . Saving 10-15 cents a hog may have cost producers a lot more. Hopefully Qaulity will be able to get back to normal operations as Dan Cohoe and Qaulity Meats has been good too Ontario producers over the yrs. KG Kimball

I remember clearly going to the mic at a Pork Board AGM at the time single desk selling was being abolished and saying we need to have a protection program in place just like the cattle producers have and there was almost zero support for my idea, because all that producers could see was it would cost them money. Had the Pork Board Directors been working for the farmers then they would have ensured that this program was in place prior to the new market changes and they would have had some support dollars from the provincial government to help get it rolling and established, however they chose to do nothing and didnt make any effort to get any farmer buy in and now we have this issues with farmers having sold hogs and no money to pay them.

What i would have liked to have seen is farmers paying $0.20 cent s a hog and processors paying $0.20 cents a hog and once there was enough funds in the account then it could be lowered or but on pause.

The minister and staff played a key roll in the change / destruction of marketing.
Where are they now??? Have our minister and premier come forward to rebuild trust and security.
