TORONTO - The Wine Council of Ontario, the Grape Growers of Ontario and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) are the 2012 winners of the Friends of the Greenbelt Award.
"The economic benefits of the Greenbelt are vast and Ontario's wine industry is a significant contributor," says Burkhard Mausberg, CEO Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. According to a KPMG report, Ontario VQA wine sales have more than doubled in the last five years. At $110 million annually, VQA sales account for about 40 per cent of total Ontario wine sales. In addition, the VQA wine industry is credited with creating 1,300 jobs in the last four years.
Ontario's Greenbelt covers more than 1.8 million acres of green space, farmland, communities, forests, wetlands, and watersheds. The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is an independent, charitable organization focused on Greenbelt Region support. BF
